President's Update
9/2/14 Can you believe fall is right around the corner? September is here and there are so many great rodeos left to go to before the Sept. 30 cut off. We will all be watching the results closely as in the next month we could see some changes in the Wrangler NFR Top 15. There is still a lot of money to be won, and positions could change. One of the game changers could be Pendleton, as this rodeo has played an important role in Wrangler NFR qualifiers the past few years. The WPRA will have a General Membership Meeting after slack in Pendleton on September 8, and there is a National Finals Rodeo Committee meeting there as well. Lots of meetings scheduled at possibly the most exciting barrel race MORE
Board Announces Development of a Ground Improvement Plan
9/2/14 The WPRA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that for 2015 they are developing a multi faceted plan to promote improved ground conditions. The goal is to create a range of educational tools that we can offer to rodeo committees, judges, and contractors. Ideas going into the plan include:
· A DVD/ Video with suggestions from equine industry ground experts.
· A brochure outlining ground preparation tips.
· Increased communications about SAF (Safe Arena Footing) team.
· Circuit Director out reach to rodeo committees prior to rodeo.
Other options might include: suggesting the use of different ground implements, considering a tractor drag in the middle of a section under certain situations, hand rakes, etc. More details will become available as plans develop.

Member Update
9/16/14 Our thoughts go out to Trish Wirth, who was sadly forced to humanely euthanize her horse Dreaming after he suffered an irreparable injury at the Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up. We wish Trish a speedy recovery, as well, after suffering a broken arm during the accident.
