Wall Wasted No Time in Round 2

By Amy Wilson

Only 11 hundredths of a second separated first through sixth in Round 2 of the WPRA Barrel Racing at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. At the top of the leaderboard was Roosevelt, Utah’s Kimmie Wall with a 13.79 second run.

“It was really tough! I think everyone seems to be liking the ground, and handling it well,” Wall said following her first victory lap at her first Wrangler NFR. “It’s totally thrilling. Moving up two spots on the ground was helpful, but Foxy knows her job well and she really, really fired tonight.

"Foxy is quite a little fire cracker,” she added about the 8 year old mare, TKW Bullys Famous Fox. “I’m very proud of the fact that we raised her too. Her training is actually a family affair in a way – we ride as a family every day. So, I feel that they put in as much time as I in keeping Foxy fit and ready to run.”

While the Wrangler NFR announcer mentioned that Foxy reminded him of Charmayne James’ Scamper, others have been complimenting her gorgeous tail. “I work really hard on her tail,” Wall admitted. “I actually cut a bunch off of her tail this spring and it’s grown back. I work a lot on her tail because I think a pretty tail is awesome.”

Wall, who is sponsored by Ranchdressn and Glam and Grit, has also been working on her wardrobe with the hopes of winning the Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award. “Go vote for us – or go vote for your favorite, doesn’t have to be me – at WPRA.com,” she said as she flashed a big smile. You can see her outfits on her Facebook page, Kimmie Wall Professional Barrel Racer.

And, now she will have a new accent piece to go with her outfits – a WNFR go-round buckle. “We are having a blast! I’m super excited I even get to go to the South Point. My son (Stran) told me last night, ‘Mom, I really want to go to the South Point so step it up,’” Wall said laughing. “So Stran I guess this is for you!”

Also in regards to her family, she said, “For them to get to come here for all 10 days and join in, it means the world to me that they’re here.”

Following her second place finish in Round 1 with the win in Round 2, Wall leads the average. She’s already won $56,962 which puts her second in the Ram Top Gun standings, and second in the WPRA Barrel Racing World Standings behind Mary Burger.

Lisa Lockhart on Louie and Sherry Cervi on Arson split second place in Round 2 with runs of 13.80 seconds. Amberleigh Moore, who was 13th on the ground, was fourth on Paige with 13.81 seconds. Sarah Rose McDonald and Bling claimed fifth place with 13.88, and Ivy Conrado and Tibbie earned sixth place with 13.90 seconds.
