The committees of the World's Oldest Rodeo, Prescott, Ariz., and the Navajo Nation Fourth of July PRCA Rodeo, in Window Rock, Ariz., are teaming up to offer a special prize for one lucky competitor during the 2012 Cowboy Christmas run. Any contestant who places at both rodeos, and wins the most money in single or multiple events, will be awarded a bonus of $1,500. But a contestant must place at both rodeos to be eligible to win the bonus. "These are two wonderful rodeos, and it is one of the best runs there is during the Fourth of July," said Window Rock Rodeo Coordinator T.J. Holgate. "Prescott ends on the Fourth and our rodeo begins that day, so they match up very well and contestants can go to both." Prescott puts up $12,000 per event and Window Rock has $9,000, making the two stops alluring enough without the extra incentive of a $1,500 bonus. It was something that Holgate, along with J.C. Trujillo - the Rodeo Chairman at Prescott and the 1981 PRCA World Champion Bareback Rider - decided to do, and they hope it grows and turns into something bigger down the road. "In this time of the economy being hard, this is just a way for us to try to draw more incentives for the contestants to strive for with our Arizona rodeos," Holgate said.
Prescott runs from June 28 to July 4, while Window Rock takes place July 4-6.

Ground Rules:The barrel racing pattern will be set up so that the barrel races enter the arena from the north end gate. This is necessary to alleviate the possibility of an accident involving barrel racers and pedestrians trying to cross the track. Portable pens set up beside trailers may not be larger than 10 feet x 10 feet. Contestants selected to be introduced each day as representatives of their event will participate either by riding into the arena from the South end gate or waving from chute. Timed event contestants must stay behind the large gate until they are on deck and must vacate the arena immediately upon completion of their run. This is necessary to allow the spectators in the South end of the grand stand to be able to see the timed events in an unhindered manner. Due to heavy traffic and congestions on the first day of the rodeo, contestants who are only up in the slack must park on the race track and have vehicles and trailers removed from the track within one hour of slack ending. During paid performances the high score/fast time of the day for each event will be recognized with a victory lap. Contestants are asked to participate. Contestant companion seating will be available in the South end of the main grandstand.
