Munsell Wins First World Title in Breakaway Roping, George Ropes Her First Average Title

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The 2025 Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka came to a dramatic finish with Taylor Munsell being crowned the 2025 WPRA World Champion Breakaway Roper.

“I want to start off by saying thank God,” said Munsell. “He’s blessed me in so many ways. Through all the trials, they’ve all led me here to this so I’m so thankful for everything he’s given me and done for me. I’ve always just wanted to affect others through this. I’m super glad that I’m getting to live my dream outside of the arena by doing that and then also doing this for a living is just awesome.”

Munsell of Alva, Oklahoma, came in with the No. 1 back number and after a rough start with only two qualified times during the first five rounds, she rebounded like the veteran she is to post times in all five rounds on the second day to finish the 2025 season on top. With a share of two round wins, the sixth and 10th, she solidified her first world title finishing the year with $209,021.

“I started it off a little rougher than I wanted to, but I knew in my mind that I deserved to be here,” noted Munsell. “I had so many great people in my corner and I got a lot of good advice. I got a little bit of bad advice, but we put it all to use and got it turned around. Those two girls that were behind me definitely put the pressure on me, which I thought it made it pretty exciting, and it was so fun to be a part of.”

Munsell had set a new regular season earnings record in 2025 and now she holds the record for most money won in the WPRA by a breakaway roper in a single season. Actually, she was not the only one to surpass the $200,000 mark for the season, but reserve world champion Shelby Boisjoli-Meged finished with $204,730 and Josie Conner

Rylee George was the most consistent roper over the 10 rounds of the 2025 Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping and left Cowtown Coliseum as the average champion. She set a new average record in a time of 29.0 seconds on 10 head, surpassing the old record set in 2022 by Cadee Williams with a 31.9. She was the only one in the field of 15 to have 10 clean runs.

“It means the world to me,” stated George, who last year left with the Betty Gayle Cooper Fast Time Award. “I’m blessed to be here. Thank you to Jill Tanner for letting me ride that great black horse of hers. He’s really honest for these calves and this fast start.”

Winning the 2025 Betty Gayle Cooper Fast Time award, presented by the Cowgirl Museum was Aspen Miller at her first NFBR. Miller recorded a 1.9 second run in the eighth-round tying Hali Williams and Joey Williams with the fastest time. Miller was awarded the title via the tiebreaker which reverted back to who placed higher in the average. Miller’s only bobble came in the seventh round with a no time.

“I’ve always loved to rope fast,” stated Miller. “After my seventh calf, not doing any good, I knew I wanted to go at one and see what it did and it worked out. This is a very prestigious award to receive and I’m very, very thankful for everyone involved.”

She went on to talk about the individual the award is named after.

“It’s so special. It’s women like that who give us these opportunities. They set the pathway and they’re the reason we’re here today and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
