San Antonio Qualifier in Uvalde—CANCELLED
November 18, 2025—The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA), and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) are following the recommended guidelines of the Texas Animal Health Commission and have made the decision to cancel the Uvalde Rodeo Qualifier, Nov 19-22. The safety and well-being of our animal athletes is our top priority, and the recent EHV-1 announcement from other events has led us to cancel the rodeo.
Additional information regarding how this cancellation will affect the contestant field for the San Antonio Rodeo in February will be provided once details are finalized.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding during this time.
WPRA World Finals/Elite Barrel Race/EHV-1 Announcement
November 18, 2025—The Elite Barrel Race was notified on November 18, 2025, by the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) that equine attendees at the WPRA World Finals and Elite Barrel Race held November 5-9, 2025, have exhibited clinical neurological signs of EHV-1 after the event. We take this notification extremely seriously and are committed to providing full transparency while upholding the highest standards of safety for our contestants, their animals, and the public. We are working closely with Elite to ensure open lines of communication between both organizations and our membership/contestants.
Additionally, we want to clearly communicate that prior to the start of the WPRA World Finals and Elite Barrel Race on November 5, 2025, no livestock – including equine – had been on the event property since October 12, 2025.
Both the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) and Elite Barrel Race are actively cooperating with the Texas Animal Health Commission as they continue their investigation, and we will follow all recommended guidance to ensure the safety of every animal and individual. We encourage all participants to work closely with their veterinarian for their horse’s safety and well-being. Our team remains vigilant and dedicated to maintaining a sanitary, responsible, and professional environment. As we receive more information, direction and/or restrictions from Texas Animal Health Commission we will keep a clear line of communication.
Thank you for your trust and patience as we work through this situation with the utmost care. To obtain the latest information on equine disease events and for equine owners to find resources, please visit https://www.tahc.texas.gov/animal_health/equine/.
The WPRA will be sending additional information in regards to how this effects the San Antonio qualifier in Uvalde, Texas as the WPRA Board of Directors is working with the Texas Animal Health Commission and San Antonio Rodeo.
